Our NCCAOM board certified practitioners are highly skilled at both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, and are known not only for their compassion, but their ability to work hand in hand with you and your doctors to bridge the gap from sickness to wellness. The Healing Arts Center of Philadelphia is a group wellness center started by acupuncturist Steven Mavros, L.OM. and chiropractor Barry Silverman, D.C. that integrates both mainstream and complimentary medicine all under one roof and in a serene environment. We are conveniently located in Center City Philadelphia, in the Old City region, and have just opened a new satellite office in Bryn Mawr. Our offices have both daytime and evening hours 6 days a week. Parking is ample with both on-street parking on Front St. and lot parking right in our building.

NEW STUDY SHOWS DEFINITIVELY ACUPUNCTURE EFFECTIVE FOR CHRONIC PAIN

201109271315.jpeg A new study of acupuncture, the most rigorous and detailed analysis to date, found that it can ease many forms of chronic pain. The findings provide strong scientific support for the age-old therapy. Financed by the National Institutes of Health and carried out over about half a decade, researchers found that acupuncture outperformed sham treatments and standard care when used by people suffering from osteoarthritis, migraines and chronic back, neck and shoulder pain. The story got wide press in the NY Times, CNN, US News and World Report, and our own Philadelphia Magazine.

VASHNI BRINGS ACUPUNCTURE BACK TO URBAN OUTFITTERS CORPORATE AT THE NAVY YARD

201109271315.jpg Our new practitioner Vashni Nilon is bringing Acupuncture back to the Navy Yard and Urban Outfitters Inc. corporate campus. We'll be treating URBN employees and bringing them a discounted private treatment to help blot out the noise and stress of work, even if they have to get right back to it. Appointments are available every other Weds. If you are an employee or interested in your business starting a program in the Navy Yard, scheduling can be done through our front desk, or using our online acupuncture scheduling software.

RETHINKING FERTILITY: ACUPUNCTURE AND FERTILITY ON THE TODAY SHOW

Julie Schwartz, L.Ac.NBC's Today Show did a great 3 part series on fertility and medicine. One segment focused on Eastern methods of promoting conception, and the benefits of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine for Fertility. Included were informative interviews with patients who used Eastern methods, as well as with the Infertility Cure's Randine Lewis, L.Ac. and Dr. Stillman of Shady Grove.

CBS INTERVIEWS STEVE ON NEW ACUPUNCTURE & IVF STUDY

steve1.jpg CBS's Healthwatch interviewed Steve on a new study released in the British Medical Journal touting the benefits of Acupuncture in assisting with In-Vitro Fertilization. The analysis pooled results from seven studies on 1,366 women in the United States, Germany, Australia and Denmark. Researchers found that women who went through IVF with Acupuncture within a day of embryo transfer had their odds of conceiving go up about 65 percent compared to doing IVF without Acupuncture.

PHILADELPHIAMAVEN'S INTERVIEW WITH STEVE ON ACUPUNCTURE'S SUCCESS WITH PMS

Philadelphiamaven.com's Amber Gruver interviewed Steve on his success with treating PMS symptoms using both Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. Amber writes: Steve led me to the November 2002 issue of "Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics" in which researchers compared acupuncture with what Steve calls, "sham acupuncture", where they placed a needle on the skin, put didn't puncture the skin. The study stated that "the success rate of Acupuncture in treating PMS symptoms was 77.8%, whereas it was 5.9% in the placebo group."

STUDY: ACUPUNCTURE BETTER FOR LOW BACK PAIN THAN CONVENTIONAL TREATMENT

Logo WebmdAcupuncture proved to be more effective than conventional lower back pain treatments in a new study, but it was no more effective than a sham needle procedure. "Acupuncture represents a highly promising and effective treatment option for chronic back pain," researcher Heinz Endres, MD, tells WebMD. "Patients experienced not only reduced pain intensity, but also reported improvements in the disability that often results from back pain -- and therefore in their quality of life."
